Micky van de Ven reveals his thoughts on Tottenham after Postecoglou’s bold decision ahead of the Man United clash.

Ange Postecoglou made a shocking and harsh decision for Tottenham, to which Micky van de Ven has responded. Spurs defeated Qarabag 3-0 on Thursday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to start their Europa League campaign, but it was by no means an easy triumph.

Radu Dragusin was sent off after just eight minutes for keeping the Romanian in the last position after Juninho had taken him out of the game. But the Lilywhites rallied magnificently, and a few moments later Brennan Johnson opened the score.

Pape Matar Sarr and Dominic Solanke‘s goals in the second half sealed the victory, despite the fact that the score did not accurately reflect the play. The visitors pressured Guglielmo Vicario into many saves, missed a penalty, and had a goal disallowed for offside.

The Italy international has drawn criticism, but as shown by his incredible save to deny Elvin Cafarguliyev, his shot-stopping is without reproach. But that was probably not his best moment of the evening; as Son Heung-min withdrew due to a potential injury, the 27-year-old assumed the captain’s armband.

On Instagram, he wrote:

“A day that I will not forget. The first one as captain, leading this great club, at home, in

a European cup and more importantly getting the 3 points. Proud.

This one is for those fans that are always by our side no matter what.”

Among the people who congratulated Vicario were former Spurs player Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Dominic Solanke, Richarlison, and Micky van de Ven. He later wrote:

“Bravo Lungo.” During his pre-Manchester United press conference, Postecoglou

was questioned over his choice to start Vicario in the last quarter of the match.”

When asked about the goalkeeper’s performance, he responded, “Yeah he was but he has been great since the day he arrived, mate.” “These days, criticism is just a part of playing football. A handful have been in the news. This year, I brought him into the leadership group, and I’ve only recently noticed his development. He’s one of those individuals who always has a positive attitude.

“He wants to work, and he wants to work every day, even on his days off. In addition to being a wonderful human being, he sets a terrific example for everyone. I believed he had something valuable to offer our leadership team. He did a terrific job receiving the armband last night, and I felt he was up to the challenge.

It was maybe unexpected that Ben Davies was not named captain, even if Postecoglou acknowledges that Vicario, Son, James Maddison, and Cristian Romero are now regarded as members of the leadership group. The 31-year-old has served the team admirably throughout his ten years there, but his stay in North London could soon come to an end.
