Midfielder claims he lost his love of the game at Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Winks has revealed that he lost a little of his love for football during his final few years at Tottenham, but has recovered it since joining Leicester City.

Winks‘ choice to drop down to the Championship with Leicester may have shocked some, given that only a few years ago the midfielder appeared to be a generational talent and played a vital role in Tottenham‘s Champions League final appearance.

In fact, Gareth Southgate identified the Spurs academy graduate as someone who may be the heartbeat of England’s team for years to come (ESPN).

However, a combination of injuries and being passed over by successive Tottenham managers saw the 28-year-old’s career plummet, forcing him to drop down a league.

That decision has proven to be inspired, as Winks stands out in the Championship. The former Tottenham player’s regular performances are a major reason why the Foxes are now nine points clear at the top of the table.

Harry Winks had a difficult time at Tottenham.

Winks has recently spoken out about his problems at his boyhood club, admitting that he is currently enjoying football more than ever before.

The midfielder told BBC Sport: “Maybe the last two or three years of my time at Spurs were difficult, but before that it was fantastic, and I enjoyed every minute.” I gained a lot from that as well; it really helps you grow your character when you don’t play as often and don’t feel as significant.

“But again, I wouldn’t want to alter anything for anything; I’ve learned so much along the road in my career, and it helps you enjoy the highs more when you’ve gone through that.

“I definitely lost a little passion for sport in the last couple of years because I wasn’t playing and was left out of squads and such. “It’s difficult to find that love for it, but once you make the brave decision to leave and go to Italy and try to find it there, which I did, and then come here, it’s probably the most I’ve ever enjoyed football in my career.”

Winks isn’t only a Tottenham supporter; he’s also a model professional and a terrific young man. I am glad to see that he has rekindled his passion for the game, and I have no doubt that he will prosper in the Premier League next season now that he has regained his confidence.
