“Might be a stain on their season”: Journalist concerned about Leeds’ plans to ‘bring down’ Everton.

Leeds United are reportedly considering suing Everton for monetary damages.

Leeds United may sue Everton after being found guilty of violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, and journalist Dean Jones has explained to GIVEMESPORT how it could be a’stain on their season’ rather than something positive.

The Toffees were recently docked ten points, the highest sanction in Premier League history. As a result, Everton have been relegated as punishment for something they did in the past. Leeds United will be upset because they have been punished for the Yorkshire club’s relegation to the Championship.

Being relegated from the Premier League has an impact on a club’s finances, but whether Everton’s situation directly contributed to Leeds‘ relegation is debatable.

Leeds intends to sue Everton.
Leeds, according to MailOnline, are among the clubs planning to sue Everton for £300 million after the Toffees were found guilty of breaking spending rules. According to the report, senior figures from various clubs, including Leeds, recently met to reaffirm their plans to take action against the Merseyside club. Burnley, Leeds, and Leicester all threatened to sue Everton before the 10-point deduction was announced, and they may now do so.

According to Martyn Zingler of The Times, the same panel that decided on Everton‘s recent sanction will decide on whether or not Leeds will receive compensation, which could help the Yorkshire club in their claims. Key figures in the football world have argued that the Toffees’ punishment was excessively harsh, and it would not be surprising to see the same group stamp their authority once more.

Any party seeking compensation has 28 days from the date of the ruling on the Goodison Park club, which was issued on Friday, November 17th, to file a formal claim. It remains to be seen whether any club will actively push to move forward with their case against the Toffees, as there is no guarantee that they will win.

Everton has been punished, and paying compensation to clubs could be disastrous for them, but it appears that Leeds, Burnley, and Leicester have little sympathy. Although the charges against Everton were not specifically related to player payments or on-field matters, there is certainly an argument that they would have gained an advantage by spending more than allowed during the fiscal years under investigation.

Dean Jones verdict

Jones has discussed the possibility of Leeds suing Everton for the financial impact of their relegation, and the journalist believes that it could be a stain on their season with things going so well on the pitch. Jones goes on to say that he understands Leeds’ situation, hinting that he wouldn’t blame them for pressing the case, but that with all of the attention on what Daniel Farke is doing on the pitch, it’s improving every aspect of the club. Jones revealed to GIVEMESPORT…

“I think there’s definitely some caution to be had here because things have turned around at Leeds recently and I think that the focus on things being better on the pitch has definitely improved every area of the football club. I think that if they were suddenly overshadowed by a big legal case where they’re trying to bring down Everton, it might just be a stain on the season rather than something that much good can come of. I say that, but I do still understand Leeds’ situation.”

Leeds may not be successful in their case.

Everton barely avoided relegation to the Championship last season after Leeds, Leicester, and Southampton were all relegated. If the Toffees were to drop to England‘s second tier, they would only have replaced one of the trio, allowing the Merseyside club to argue that they cannot all be compensated.

If Everton had received their 10-point deduction from last season, Leicester would have avoided relegation. It remains to be seen whether any of the aforementioned trio have any case at all, but Leeds will undoubtedly believe there is no harm in trying, as dropping to the Championship will undoubtedly have had a significant impact on their current financial situation.
