The Spanish international Marco Asensio is scheduled to become a free agency in 2023, and as you may have heard, Liverpool is reportedly interested in tempting him away from Real Madrid
The Reds are experienced in taking advantage of market opportunities like these. Back in 2015, Brendan Rodgers moved quickly to grab James Milner on a free transfer, and Jürgen Klopp followed suit by signing Joel Matip.
Now that the German has the Cameroonian since 2016, he may complete his best free transfer.
Klopp reportedly has a personal stake in getting Asensio to Anfield.
If it does, it could be Liverpool’s best business decision under the 55-year-old.
At the young age of 26, Asensio has already won numerous awards, including three La Liga championships, in addition to three Champions League championships (he scored in 2017 final against Juventus).
The No. 11 for Real Madrid has also won 29 caps for Spain.
Asensio can play a variety of positions, much as the 36-year-old Milner has since switched from Manchester City to Liverpool, which is why we compared him to Milner in our title.
The Spaniard was a member of Carlo Ancelotti’s frontline last year on the right, the left, and the center.
Despite frequently switching positions, Asensio still managed to deliver results, netting 12 goals across all competitions to finish behind Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior as the third-highest scorer.
ASENSIO IS A NEED FOR LIVERPOOL
As things stand, it appears extremely improbable that Asensio will extend his contract with Real Madrid.
Therefore, Liverpool must try to reach a deal as quickly as possible since Klopp cannot afford to pass up this chance.
While Jude Bellingham has been linked to a high-profile transfer, Asensio would provide the Reds star-studded squad depth in midfield and wouldn’t cost the club any money in transfer fees.
If that happens, it would be the best cheap addition made since the signings of Milner and Matip. Liverpool is no stranger to making the most of free agents.
