Roberto De Zerbi expressed his “extreme disappointment and frustration” following Brighton’s 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday, October 29.
After dominating the first half, Albion took a well-earned lead into halftime thanks to a superb finish from Evan Ferguson.
They were penalized, though, when Joao Palhinha scored an incredible second-half equalizer and they were unable to extend their lead.
Following the game, De Zerbi stated, “I think we played a good game.”
“We had a great first half of play. We endured suffering for five, six, and seven minutes in the second half.
“Carlos Baleba wasn’t feeling well. He was having a minor issue. That’s when we gave up a goal. We deserved to win, in my opinion.
The Italian claimed that the Seagulls “dominated the game” and “played very well,” particularly in the first half.
“We could score more goals,” he continued. We are extremely irritated and disappointed in the outcome. We were down two points. We felt very unfortunate and sorry about it.
“You must evaluate the game. We were the only team playing, and we were worthy winners.
“If you look at the two games we played back-to-back in a short period of time, we are changing and improving.
“However, upon closer inspection, we find that just one team played for 85 minutes on the field. Brighton was in that. I am quite pleased with the performances in terms of the game’s quality.
When questioned about an incident involving Palhinha—who was lucky not to get hurt by Pascal Gross‘ elbow—De Zerbi was questioned. This preceded the midfielder from Portugal tying the score.
“I want to talk about football,” De Zerbi uttered. “There are other topics on the pitch that I would rather not talk about.”
