Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s talisman, has downplayed suggestions that he may leave Anfield this summer, despite interest from overseas.
Mohamed Salah has stated that he has no intention of leaving Liverpool this summer with Jurgen Klopp.
Over the last year, the Reds‘ talisman, 31, has been the subject of heated conjecture linking him to Middle Eastern clubs. Liverpool rejected a large £150 million deal from Al-Ittihad outright in the closing knockings of the summer transfer season, but interest in the Egypt international appears to have not dimmed.
Salah will have only one year left on his current deal in the summer, when Liverpool will also be looking for a new manager.
Klopp has revealed that he will step down at the conclusion of the season, nearly nine years after taking over at Anfield.
Salah, a former Chelsea and AS Roma player, has confirmed to Jamie Carragher that he has no ambitions to leave Liverpool when the transfer window reopens.
“No, no – it’s life, it’s part of life now that everything moves,” Salah told Sky Sports when asked if Klopp’s departure will affect his personal ambitions. “Players, including major players, have already departed the club. The manager is also highly essential to the club, and he is going. One day, I shall depart.
Salah confesses he was surprised by Klopp‘s decision to leave Anfield. The German informed players during a secret squad meeting just before a formal announcement was made at the end of January.
Salah recalls the moment he and his teammates learned Klopp would be stepping down, and admits he expected an early morning meeting to result in a statement that the manager had extended his contract.
He went on to say, “We usually don’t have meetings at 10.30 a.m. since that is when we submit our reports. Normally, the meet time is 10.30 a.m., followed by training at 12 p.m. Then they indicated there was a meeting at 10.30 a.m. I said, ‘What?’
“The manager’s agent was at the training ground, and I assumed, ‘Oh, he’s renewing his contract.'” And five minutes before the meeting, Virgil asked, ‘Do you know what the meeting is about?’ I said no. He stated, ‘The manager is departing’. I asked, “Really, the manager is leaving?” Are you serious? Why?’ “He said, ‘No idea’.”Then the manager came in and just said it, which was strange because no one knew before. There was nothing in the media. He didn’t even prepare us for that; he simply said it. “That was an unusual day for us and the club.”
