MOT View: Given what transpired against Huddersfield, Leeds’ star player may have played his final match under Farke.

Wilfried Gnonto might have played his final match for Leeds United following his encounter with Huddersfield Town.

With Leeds United now sitting third in the Championship table, the Whites are looking incredibly strong under manager Daniel Farke.

With Leicester City dominating the league and the Foxes far clear at the top, it could have been even better for the West Yorkshire team. However, Farke will only be focused on his players’ performance, and right now, they are performing excellently.

After losing 1-0 at Stoke City on Wednesday, October 25, a quick turnaround was required, and that’s exactly what happened on Saturday (October 28) at home against Huddersfield Town.

Daniel James and Crysencio Summerville, two of the Terriers’ wings, each scored a brace in the 4-1 triumph, although Michal Helik gave the home team a late goal.

But while Farke will be overjoyed by the goals from the Whites’ offensive tandem, Wilfried Gnonto, another winger, might not feel the same way.

The youthful Italian, who has missed several games this year, was compelled to watch from the sidelines at Elland Road as his colleagues scored four goals in the first half. At the hour mark, Farke inserted Gnonto, who replaced one of the match’s heroes, Summerville.

The 19-year-old ended up sticking in West Yorkshire, although he didn’t do himself any favours at Elland Road in the summer.

However, given that Gnonto has had difficulty getting into the lineup when healthy in recent months, it is unclear if it was the appropriate choice.

If players like Summerville and James continue to put on outstanding performances—Jaidon Anthony is also fighting for a starting position—the lack of minutes will undoubtedly persist.

Though Leeds Live (24 October) reported that the Whites would consider selling the teenager if a £30 million bid emerged in the forthcoming January transfer window, talk of Gnonto leaving Elland Road hasn’t exactly subsided.

The gifted attacker could suffer another injury before the next transfer window opens, or he could take a firm stance in the upcoming months, trying his hardest to irritate his manager and force a release. In either case, he might not play for the Whites again.
