Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto’s Instagram activity is unusual as rumours about his Elland Road future abound.
Many people predicted that Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto would be one of the Championship’s greatest players before the season even started.
The 20-year-old had impressed in the Premier League and was the subject of a lot of transfer speculation throughout the summer, even refusing to play in order to force a move away from Elland Road.
However, due to a combination of injury, good form from other players, and his summer actions, the Italian international has done very little for Daniel Farke‘s team in the early stages of the season, scoring and assisting once in ten matches.
While Crysencio Summerville and Dan James are in some of their best form for Leeds on either wing, Gnonto has been forced to watch from the bench and has been relegated to cameo appearances late in games, starting only once in the Championship since September.
Gnonto may have only scored twice in the Premier League last season, but he always seemed to make Leeds a better club with his pace and agility on the ball, constantly causing defenders difficulties and giving teammates space to operate in.
He was a member of Italy‘s senior squad in September before being ruled out of the October international break due to injury. For the November matches, he has been relegated to the Under-21s side, where he scored twice against San Marino.
With fixtures piling up in the run-up to Christmas, the 20-year-old is expected to be engaged much more heavily on the other side of the November international break, but it’s difficult to see Farke preferring him over Summerville at the present.
You have to wonder if the winger is pleased with his current situation at Leeds United, and his Instagram activity suggests that he may wish to leave Elland Road.
When the Whites were in the Premier League, the 20-year-old used to post images of himself in a Leeds shirt on his personal Instagram account on a regular basis, but since the club’s relegation to the Championship, the posts have grown few and far between, and they usually include Italy.
Since his last post in a Leeds shirt in February, the winger has uploaded six images to his Instagram account, five of which include his time on international duty, both with the senior and Under-21 sides, and the other during his summer vacation.
Having been rather silent on his account in previous weeks, the 20-year-old posted only a day after his performance against San Marino, ensuring a photo of him captaining his national team was on his timeline, with comments primarily limited to teammates on the post.
While there’s nothing wrong with Gnonto‘s apparent pride in playing for and representing his country, it’s strange that he hasn’t posted about Leeds in a long time. With rumours regarding his future at Elland Road still flying, he seemed unconcerned about donning the white shirt at the moment.
