Renan Lodi, who spent last season with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, is poised to join Atletico Madrid this summer.
Last summer, the Brazilian left-back was extensively linked with a move to Newcastle United until the club signed Matt Targett on a permanent basis. Lodi was eventually loaned out to Forest for the 2022-23 season.
Last season, the 25-year-old made 32 appearances for Forest in all competitions, scoring one. Lodi is expected to join Ligue 1 side Marseille for roughly £11 million after his loan period ends.
Lodi is scheduled to get a physical in France on Friday before finalizing a permanent transfer, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. Atletico retains a 20% sell-on provision under the agreement.
Lodi is a former teammate of Kieran Trippier‘s and has played for Brazil alongside Bruno Guimaraes. Newcastle are still looking for a left-back a year after scouting the defender.
Targett only made six Premier League starts last season because Dan Burn spent the majority of the season out of position. The Magpies have been widely connected with a move for Arsenal left-back Kierney this summer, but no agreement has been reached.
The Gunners are thought to be asking £30 million for the 26-year-old, who started just six league games in 2022-23.
