News of ‘Expensive’ Joe Gelhardt exit from Leeds: Potential next club revealed

Alan Nixon believes any potential deal for Huddersfield Town to sign Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt would be costly.

The Sun journalist took to Twitter to say that if Huddersfield wanted to sign him permanently in January, the deal would be prohibitively expensive.

Gelhardt has made just five Championship appearances this season under Daniel Farke, with only two of those coming from the start, raising questions about his long-term future at Elland Road.

Nixon responded to a Huddersfield fan’s inquiry about a potential deal on his personal Twitter account, saying, “That would be pretty expensive.”

It’s time for him to move on.

Gelhardt has recently dropped out of the Leeds team due to the strength of their attack, and after spending the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland, the time may have come for him to leave Elland Road on a more permanent basis.

If Leeds can secure the suggested high fee, the club may view it as an important piece of business to complete, with outgoing players and incoming funds critical to the spending they will be able to do under Financial Fair Play rules.

Gelhardt appeared to have an impressive long-term future at Leeds under Jesse Marsch‘s tutelage in the Premier League, but his form has since dipped and he has fallen out of favour at the club.

Whether or not Huddersfield can afford the deal is another question, though it appears their chances are slim, but if Leeds is to let him go permanently, it must be a deal that benefits them first and foremost.
