Ange Postecoglou, manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has intimated that Eric Dier will not return to the starting lineup against Manchester City.
Spurs have had a bad run of injuries, haven’t they? James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, and Rodrigo Bentancur have all been injured, while Cristian Romero remains suspended. Postecoglou must make a decision about his defence, and it appears that he has already chosen it: Dier will not play!
Eric Dier will not start for Tottenham against Manchester City, according to Ange Postecoglou.
Eric Dier has always been one of Tottenham’s most important players, but everything changed after Ange Postecoglou arrived in the summer.
Dier does not appeal to the Australian. The Englishman has only appeared twice this season, and there is no way for him to return when everyone is available.
However, before of Spurs’ Premier League match versus City on Sunday, some Spurs fans expected Postecoglou to recall Dier to face the Premier League’s best scorer, Erling Haaland.
However, Tottenham manager has dismissed that proposal, indicating that he is satisfied with the two players that played at center-back against Aston Villa last weekend – Ben Davies and Emerson Royal.
When Alasdair Gold asked Postecoglou if he felt compelled to begin Dier, he said, “No. I think it was one of the areas where we struggled last week, possibly with set-pieces. To be fair, Villa are excellent at them.
“Overall, I think our defence was fairly good. We were more dissatisfied with the second goal than with the first. Not just the back four, but we were really passive defensively for five to ten minutes, and we paid the price. That’s more of a group effort.
“They haven’t grown; they’re all the same height as they were last week.” We attempted to feed them something different, but we’ll stick with it.”
Eric Dier’s future at Tottenham is bleak.
Eric Dier was never going to play frequently for Tottenham, since Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were the indisputable first-choice starting at the back.
Tottenham have found themselves without both Romero and Van de Van, but Postecoglou still hasn’t decided on Dier.
That explains everything about the £85,000-a-week (Spotrac) man’s future at Tottenham. He needs to depart the club in January, which appears to be very likely currently.
