Nottingham Forest are now looking for a 53-year-old manager to replace Steve Cooper, who was fired once by Marinakis.

Pedro Martins is on Nottingham Forest’s shortlist of prospective replacements for Steve Cooper.

Evangelos Marinakis

Evangelos Marinakis, the Reds‘ owner, has been evaluating his options since the midweek thrashing at the hands of Fulham.

Cooper did oversee a spirited 1-1 draw against Wolves for Forest at the weekend, however. It has since been shown that he is not under immediate threat of being fired.

Forest will play Tottenham at the City Ground on Friday night. Cooper appears to have been given another chance to halt his recent run of form.

Steve Cooper

Martins is on’s shortlist for manager.  Martins is now on the shortlist to replace Cooper at Forest, according to Greek site Upopsi Sports. He is presently managing Al-Gharafa SC in Saudi Arabia.   Martins worked with Marinakis at Olympiacos for four years. He won 143 of the 221 games he oversaw, for a win record of slightly under 65% and three league crowns.   He was fired in August 2022, which makes this a fascinating prospect from a Forest standpoint, considering that Marinakis has already shown him the door at a club.

Pedro Martins

Martins would be a dangerous Forest hire.

The 53-year-old has only previously managed in lower-tier divisions, so this would be a gamble. However, he is a manager Marinakis is familiar with and certainly rated highly at Olympiacos.

Although the Forest owner has previously fired Martins, the fact that he stayed at Olympiacos for four years sets him apart considering the owner’s track record with managers.

Martins appears to be too much of a risk for Forest to take. Any manager who takes over for Cooper must have a track record in a high European league, which Martins does not have.
