Wes Morgan, a former defender for Nottingham Forest, has rejoined the team twelve years after leaving the City Ground to play for Leicester City, their neighbors.

The announcement has been made that Morgan will be joining Forest’s academy as a new national scout. This will be Morgan’s return to his hometown of Nottingham, where he first gained recognition as a player. Morgan played more than 400 games for Forest before moving to the King Power Stadium for £1 million.

Having hung up his boots in 2021, his last game was in Leicester’s FA Cup victory. In the interim, he has been sitting on the PFA board and doing some punditry. He’s now back at his old club, where he’ll be joining forces with another former member, Lewis Grabban.

Morgan will serve as a national scout for Forest’s recently established team dedicated to finding upcoming talent. He will be searching the nation for the most promising young people.

Morgan stated: “I have a great affection with Forest because I spent a large portion of my career there and I grew up in Nottingham. I’m excited to work with the amazing coaches and staff to find up-and-coming talent in the community and beyond. It’s our responsibility to make sure that this trend continues. The club takes great pride in having developed players from the academy go on to have successful professional careers with the first squad. I’m excited to be a part of Dan Kelly’s (head of academy recruitment) modern, dynamic recruitment team, which is connected to the market and makes use of contemporary technologies to blend traditional scouting with video and data.”
