Now that the calendar has turned over, Nottingham Forest finds itself in the last month of the summer transfer window.
The Reds have till August 30 at 11 p.m. to wrap up their business and assemble Nuno Espirito Santo’s team. Over the next few weeks, they will likely oversee more deals that are similar to the ones that they have already overseen, which seem to be fantastic deals.
With the addition of goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, right-back Eric da Silva Moreira, and center-back Nikola Milenkovic, the focus throughout the first part of the window was mostly on fortifying the defense. Elliot Anderson, a versatile midfielder, also wrote something and has so far shown promise.
It appears like Forest will focus more on the upper part of the field during the second half of the summer. Preseason exhibitions have demonstrated the necessity to increase Nuno’s attacking capabilities.
The head coach of the Reds stated that signing a winger or two ought to be a priority following his team’s victory over Chesterfield. It’s possible that he will soon receive his wish granted, possibly all at once.
Bringing in two wide players would provide the team depth ahead of the 2024–2025 season, giving Callum Hudson–Odoi and Anthony Elanga competition and cover. August would get off to a fantastic start for Forest if they could finalize agreements for Jota Silva of Vitoria Guimaraes and Ramon Sosa of Talleres, which rumors have them close to accomplishing.
Completing tasks before the deadline has shown to be crucial. If everything goes as planned, Jota and Sosa will still have time to get used to each other before the real action begins.
The Reds would prefer to finish everything well in advance of the deadline. Transfer windows, however, rarely operate in that manner. If and when Forest’s winger recruiting is successful, signing a striker will undoubtedly become more urgent. Nuno attempted to play against Elche last weekend without a recognized forward man, but the move proved unsuccessful.
Prior to the window closing, and maybe even before the season begins, the goalkeeper position must also be addressed. There has long been talk that two keepers would join this summer, and new rumors about it have surfaced this week.
Sam Johnstone of Crystal Palace was observed by the team in January and is still a player of interest. Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal, however, was mentioned last weekend. It’s unlikely Matt Turner will accept the position. The American is among a number of players who may depart in the final weeks of the transfer window due to rumors that he is being pursued by Major League Soccer.
Throughout the summer, Forest has been eager to reduce its player count, in part because Nuno prefers to operate with a smaller team. Making moves for players like Josh Bowler, Emmanuel Dennis, Hwang Ui-jo, and Joe Worrall would complete what looks to be a very strong window.
It will also be crucial to make sure that none of their valuable assets are affected by any possible exits. Transfer rumors have been swirling around Murillo, Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Neco Williams this summer.
