Nuno Espirito Santo’s rage was on full display when he addressed the media following Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Reds have had cause to complain about several officiating decisions this season, and Sunday‘s game at the Amex Stadium adds another to the list. They contended that Jakub Moder should have been sent off for a lunge on Neco Williams in the second half.
Forest were already behind after Andrew Omobamidele‘s own goal 29 minutes in. But Nuno believed a red card for the hosts could have transformed the game, especially because his team improved after the break after a disappointing first half.
The decision infuriated the Portuguese. Here’s what he said after the final whistle on the south shore.
Q: Should Brighton have received a red card?
NES: “If you want to start the conversation with that, we’ll spend the entire press conference talking about it.” That’s the question. It is a red card. In today’s football, having an extra player on the pitch can significantly impact the outcome of the game.We were ahead of the game. We were dominant, causing issues for Brighton.
“The VAR made a horrible decision. I don’t only evaluate the referee; I saw the image, and it’s an obvious red card.
“Week after week. Week by week. We get them, they apologise to us, but it makes no difference since it costs us money. We are in a difficult position. “We need respect, period.”
