As Nottingham Forest manager, Steve Cooper has done a great job, but he now needs to make a crucial decision about Cheikhou Kouyate.
The player’s cameo in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Luton Town was quite terrible.
Fourteen minutes remained when Kouyate was brought in from the bench. He proved to be a valuable addition to the Premier League team last season, providing wisdom and knowledge to a young and inexperienced group.
Following a flurry of summer acquisitions, there were rumors that Kouyate would be leaving the City Ground. It’s becoming clear that the player’s greatest days are behind him at this point, and the team might have been better served offloading him.
Kouyate had a bad dream on Saturday.
A midfield player’s moment to enter the field when his side is winning 2-0 is not always easy. However, Kouyate should have been able to assist the Reds win the game, given his skill level.
Despite his struggles, the player’s enthusiasm levels may have demonstrated why Crystal Palace declined to offer him a two-year contract prior to his signing with Forest.
Who Scored presents a critical evaluation of Kouyate. During the 20 minutes he spent on the field, including stoppage time, he only touched the ball eight times. That in itself is bad enough but it gets worse for Forest midfielder Kouyate.
During his time on the pitch, the central midfielder who should be renowned for getting his foot on the ball, failed to complete a single pass!
That is frankly ridiculous for a player who boasts such experience. As a result, Cooper has to be weighing up whether he can afford to utilise Kouyate moving forward.
