Patrick Bamford has revealed where the Leeds United players will be celebrating Christmas following the game against Ipswich Town on Saturday (23 December).
On the BBC’s My Mate’s A Footballer podcast on Thursday (21 December), the 30-year-old said that the Whites players will travel to London on Saturday and visit Winter Wonderland on Sunday.
When asked if players get drunk at Christmas parties by broadcaster Joe Wilkinson, the English forward acknowledged that they do and that he expects to see some of his teammates on the rides at the event in Hyde Park on Sunday.
“What is a footballer’s Christmas do?” Wilkinson inquired. “Do people get leathered?”
“Yeah,” Bamford agreed.
“OK, I wasn’t sure if you were all that sensible,” Wilkinson said. “So what’s the plan Sunday then?”
“So Sunday is Winter Wonderland, literally all day,” Bamford explained.
“Isn’t that for children?” Wilkinson inquired.
“I knew you were going to say that,” Bamford answered. “For starters, the rides will most likely be populated by youngsters. I believe you’ll start seeing players on the rides around six or seven o’clock at night.”
There should not be too many.
The game between Leeds and Ipswich on Saturday might have a significant impact on how joyful the celebrations are on Sunday when they face their Championship promotion opponents.
The Whites will be anxious to win at Elland Road in order to cut the deficit on the Tractor Boys back down to nine points.
Daniel Farke‘s team then has a brief turnaround as they travel to Preston North End on Boxing Day, where they could face another hard-fought match.
As a result, the German will most likely be hoping that his teammates don’t get too carried away at Winter Wonderland.
They will know the line of what is acceptable at such a crucial period of the season, so there should be no issues in such a high-profile atmosphere.
