Pedro Porro, in just 21 games this season, breaks the all-time Spurs record

Pedro Porro currently owns the record for the most assists by a Tottenham Hotspur defender in any season, after providing another assist in yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Manchester United, and there should be plenty more to come.

Pedro Porro joined the club a year ago with high expectations. Admittedly, his early days in North London were marred by a few defensive gaffes, which earned the Spaniard criticism.

However, he has quickly adapted to the Premier League and is now thriving in Ange Postecoglou’s free-flowing system. Porro, as an inverted wing-back, has plenty of opportunities to go forward, and he and the squad are reaping the benefits of his fearless approach.

Porro has been instrumental in Tottenham’s success this season, and his corner set up Richarlison for the first of the Lilywhites’ two goals against Manchester United yesterday.

According to Squawka, Porro has “now provided more assists in 2023/24 than any Tottenham defender has ever managed in a single Premier League campaign.”

Ben Davies previously held the record of six assists in the 2017/18 season. Kieran Tripper and Serge Aurier each had five assists in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season (all via WhoScored.com).

Spurs Web Opinion

Pedro Porro is definitely loving his place higher up the pitch under Ange, and it’s incredible to think how many more assists will come from his deliveries this season. He does get caught out defensively, so there is potential for growth, but his attacking output compensates for this and was always going to leave him vulnerable on the counterattack.
