In a sly dig, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola seems to indicate that Arsenal are a larger Premier League title rival than Liverpool.
City have won five of the last six Premier League titles, and Jurgen Klopp‘s club is the only one to have broken their streak, winning the title in 2019-20.
Arsenal, on the other hand, fought City all the way last season and appeared to be on track to win their first Premier League trophy since 2004, but a late collapse cost them the title.
There are only 11 games left in the season, and all three clubs are embroiled in a tight title chase, with Liverpool now leading the table with 63 points.
Guardiola‘s champions lie second, only one point behind Liverpool ahead of Sunday’s trip to Anfield.
Arsenal are third with 61 points.
The Gunners have been in outstanding form in recent weeks, scoring 31 goals and winning all seven top-flight games.
Liverpool, meanwhile, won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest thanks to Darwin Nunez‘s contentious 99th-minute winner.
Guardiola mentioned the match in his press conference on Friday, stating, “Arsenal is already there; they were our biggest rivals last season.”Watch how they play. Liverpool requires more than 90 minutes to win a game, whereas Arsenal may just need 25 minutes.
Guardiola has also entirely dismissed Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s comments, which indicated that titles were more important to Liverpool.
When asked about Alexander-Arnold‘s statements, the City manager changed the subject and simply responded, “I wish him well.”I wish him a rapid recovery so he can return to the pitch as soon as possible. ‘Speedy recovery and the following question.’
City duo Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias retaliated to Alexander-Arnold, although Guardiola attempted to diffuse the situation.
‘They protect the club not by replying to this individual, but by doing what they have done on the field for many years every three days,’ Guardiola said.
‘That is the finest option. I could answer, but why? It’s what it is. I’m proud of our accomplishments, but it’s not necessary for me to believe that my players are working hard.I’ve been quite satisfied with my players for many years. Do you think we’ll fight because Erling and Ruben talked? We are there, we know what occurred in the last few years, and we are going to try again and do a decent job.
