Barcelona is considering their next steps after Xavi’s departure this summer. Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has suggested that they hire Roberto De Zerbi, who has been linked with the Liverpool job.
Two former Bayern Munich managers, Hansi Flick and Thomas Tuchel, the latter of whom will finish the season in Germany before leaving, are being considered, but Barcelona president Joan Laporta has sought Guardiola for his opinion. According to Mundo Deportivo, Guardiola told the club’s boss that if it were up to him, he would hire Brighton’s manager.
De Zerbi has been connected to a future vacancy at Liverpool. The biggest issue for Barcelona could be De Zerbi’s release clause, which they are apparently unwilling to pay. Brighton would want a high price for De Zerbi if they let him go, especially given his rising reputation.
De Zerbi arrived in England as an unknown when Brighton required a replacement for Graham Potter. But their new manager immediately proved his value, as he took the south coast team to Europe for the first time, according to Mirror Online.
