Leeds United loanee defender Cody Drameh has no plans to extend his contract with the club, according to Phil Hay of The Athletic.
Leeds United loaned out right-back Drameh again in the summer. Many expected him to earn his long-awaited shot in the first squad after the club was relegated to the Championship, but that wasn’t the case for the 21-year-old.
Drameh was unable to force his way into Daniel Farke‘s plans and was loaned out for the season. Birmingham City signed him, and he’s been a regular ever since, with two assists in 12 games for the Blues.
After this latest loan, his long-term future with parent club Leeds United is in doubt. His contract expires at the end of the season, and trusted reporter Hay has provided new insight into his condition.
Hay, writing for The Athletic, stated that Drameh has no intention of accepting a new contract with the Whites if one is offered.
It appears likely that he will be offered an extension, albeit this could simply be an extension of his current terms to ensure the club receives a compensation amount when he leaves.
Leaving for greener pastures
If Drameh was going to receive an opportunity with Leeds United, it would have happened by now. The move to the Championship appeared to be the ideal opportunity for the right-back, but as events have unfolded, he is now getting game time away from Elland Road.
Given that he has the potential to be a valuable financial asset, losing him for a compensation fee next summer will be a disappointment. With Drameh refusing to sign a new contract, it appears that’s all the Whites will have to settle with.
Drameh will be focusing on putting forth his finest performances for Birmingham City until next summer.
