Phil Hay has questioned if Daniel Farke would make any changes to his starting XI for Leeds United’s match against Leicester City on Friday, November 3.
Crysencio Summerville is expected to be alright after his recent injury news as the Whites head to the King Power Stadium for an important Championship fixture.
Hay believes Farke may be tempted to choose an unchanged lineup from the win against Huddersfield, with the biggest call being the likely restoration of Archie.
Hay discussed his expectations for the team selection for the King Power Stadium on the Squareball podcast ahead of the game.
“He’s had a shoulder injury,” he explained.
“Farke was saying after the Stoke game that the reason he hadn’t started that game was because he was having to take painkillers just to get through some of these games.”
“I would have thought a week would have been enough time for him to be ready.” To some extent, I believe the game on Saturday crystallised the idea of what Farke’s best XI is, or something close to it.
“I think Summerville has to be in there, and I absolutely think Dan James has to be in there, and I don’t think you’re going to make many changes, if any, to that starting lineup from Saturday.”
“I’m not even sure you would bring Archie Grey back in place of Shackleton at right back, but that’s probably the biggest of the calls there.”
Big call.
Given how Leeds started against Huddersfield, it should be expected that the starting XI will remain unchanged, but you never know.
Leicester is an entirely different test than our local rivals, who are presently chasing every Championship record in the book.
Leeds, on the other hand, will fancy their chances, with the Foxes unable to beat Queens Park Rangers last time out in the Championship.
Both Shackleton and Gray have been outstanding when called upon this season, and you have the experience of Luke Ayling to consider as well.
It’s wonderful for Farke to have options, but he needs to pick what he thinks is best; this isn’t the time for novelty decisions to attempt to please everyone.
A victory is required; let us hope the team is capable of achieving it.
