A player who left Leeds United during Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure as manager in 2019 has just announced he has become a free agent, with his contract set to expire in June.
Bielsa joined Elland Road in the summer of 2018 as one of Victor Orta’s better decisions as the club’s director of football under Andrea Radrzzani, overseeing transfers and manager appointments.
The Argentine had never managed in England and did not speak English. But Orta, Radrizzani, Angus Kinnear, and Carlos Corberan rushed to Argentina and reached an agreement to employ the manager.
Leeds finished in the play-offs in his first season, and won the Championship the following season.
Bielsa became a Leeds legend as a result, especially after leading the club to ninth place in the first league.
But after only one season, Bielsa had to say farewell to Kemar Roofe, despite the striker scored 15 goals for the Argentine in Bielsa’s debut season. Roofe joined Anderlecht under Vincent Kompany for £7 million.
Now, five years after leaving Elland Road, 31-year-old Roofe has confirmed his status as a free agent in an Instagram post, which is reproduced below:
