Plymouth Argyle manager Ian Foster says Leeds United are a ‘unbelievable team’ after Daniel Farke’s side won their second match against the Pilgrims this month.
Leeds‘ victory at Home Park was their third in all competitions this season and their second in 2024, with goals from Willy Gnonto and Georginio Rutter helping them defeat a structured and determined Pilgrims side.
“I’m proud of the players and their ability to stick to the game plan and persevere in a game that can be really difficult at times. Overall, I am delighted with the performance. There are moments throughout the game where we can improve.
“We’ve limited an unbelievable team in this division to two shots on target,” he said.
“I felt we were too passive in the first 20 minutes. I thought we were too respectful of the opposition, too standoffish, not like us, not the way we want to play,” Foster said of his team’s start to the encounter, which saw Gnonto score early – a moment that the ex-England youth team manager believes allowed Plymouth to settle and grow into the game.
By the second half, Foster thought his team had the upper hand, even if the scoreboard did not show it.
“I think we dominated the second half. “The difference is that a team like Leeds is extremely ruthless,” he explained.
Georginio‘s winner ensured Leeds won their eighth consecutive game and will remain unbeaten in 2024. Plymouth remained in mid-table, but Leeds returned to second place in the Championship standings after winning in Devon.
