Postecoglou is ecstatic as Tottenham nears a significant deal with one of the Premier League’s best

Tottenham are apparently close to signing Heung-min Son to a new contract, which will undoubtedly be good news for Ange Postecoglou.

The South Korean forward is probably one of the best players in the Premier League, so it’s understandable that Spurs want to keep him for as long as possible.

Son had an outstanding 13 goals and six assists in 24 games across all competitions this season, accounting for 35% of Tottenham‘s goals.

The 31-year-old’s current contract is slated to expire in 2025 (though Tottenham has the option to extend it for another year), and there have been reports that Saudi Arabian clubs are mulling summer offers for him.

However, the London club appears to have put such rumours to rest. According to Football Insider, Spurs are ‘on track to agree’ on a new contract with Son, although it will not be confirmed until after the season ends.

For now, Tottenham and Son are ‘keen to focus on the end of the 2023-24 campaign, with Postecoglou’s team solidly in contention for Champions League qualifying.’

Tottenham are still considering a move for a new winger
Son is an important member of the Tottenham Hotspur squad and definitely have the ability to perform at the highest level.

However, Postecoglou is looking ahead and hopes to sign a young winger in the summer to serve as a long-term replacement for the South Korean.

Tottenham‘s attempts to buy Club Brugge teenager Antonio Nusa in January demonstrated this. They were on the verge of signing the brilliant 18-year-old until Brentford unexpectedly snatched the deal.

Nusa’s move to Brentford was eventually cancelled due to issues with his medical.

The Bees are still interested in signing the winger, but Tottenham are prepared to pursue him again if given the opportunity.

Other winger targets apparently include FC Copenhagen‘s Roony Bardghji, who is being pursued by numerous clubs, including Barcelona.

Tottenham is also interested in Wolves‘ Pedro Neto, although he would be a considerably more expensive addition, costing an estimated £80 million.

What appears clear, however, is that Son will stay with Spurs for at least a few more years, which will undoubtedly please their fans.
