Archie Gray, in Ange Postecoglou’s opinion, might be able to address Tottenham Hotpsur’s center-back shortage. Radu Dragusin is not available for the Lilywhites’ Europa League match against Ferencvaros on Thursday due to his red card against Qarabag last week.
Only Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero remain as Postecoglou‘s primary options at center defense, but Ben Davies has also made several appearances there over the years and is technically a left-back as well as a central defender. However, Dragusin‘s suspension shows how easily Spurs could find themselves shorthanded in the middle should they have a similar wave of injuries as they did in the last season.
Archie Gray, according to Postecoglou, can cover CB for the Spurs.
Arriving from Leeds United, Gray was one of Tottenham’s greatest summer transfer window purchases. Although the 18-year-old prefers to play as a full-back, he is mostly a center midfielder. During the preseason, Postecoglou also offered the teenager playing time at center defense, and he thinks the teenager can fill that role if needed. This is especially true on Thursday, when Davies is expected to start at left back due to Destiny Udogie‘s injury. Archie can play center back, in my opinion. He’s definitely played full-back, played midfield, played possibly left-back. Postecoglou told Gray media, “He’s a pretty versatile player, which is one of the reasons we were really excited to bring him to the club” (via Football.London).
“He is an excellent information processor, and because Destiny is out and Radu is suspended, we will undoubtedly need
him at the back. There are several potential uses for him, and I would feel at ease deploying him in any of those capacities.”
