Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, may be without a senior center-back for Sunday’s Premier League home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In addition to losing the Boxing Day match against Nottingham Forest, Spurs also lost Djed Spence to a red card for two bookable offences and Radu Dragusin to a late ankle injury.
During his pre-game press conference, Postecoglou was unable to promise that Dragusin would be healthy, and Spence will undoubtedly be suspended and unable to play against Wolves.
While Mikey Moore (sickness), Guglielmo Vicario (ankle), Micky van de Ven (thigh), Cristian Romero (thigh), Wilson Odobert (hamstring), and Richarlison (hamstring) are no closer to making a comeback, the Spurs head coach did disclose that Ben Davies (hamstring) had experienced a setback and will miss out.
The time has come for Postecoglou to give gifted adolescent Alfie Dorrington his first senior start for the team, but Yves Bissouma played out the Forest defeat in center defense when Dragusin left.
Given that they are just 37 years old together, Dorrington and fellow youngster Archie Gray might form a center pairing, and Pedro Porro will be quickly called up to right-back due to Spence’s suspension.
The Mali international might yet make a comeback to the starting lineup in his usual midfield position if Bissouma isn’t used as an emergency center-back. He might even play alongside Lucas Bergvall as Postecoglou switches up his lineup.
As Dejan Kulusevski, Dominic Solanke, and Son Heung-min continue in the final third, James Madison will undoubtedly be called up as well, most likely in lieu of Brennan Johnson.
Possible starting lineup for Tottenham Hotspur: Bergvall, Bissouma; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son; Solanke; Forster; Porro, Gray, Dorrington, Udogie
