Leeds United may have received a boost in their search for a new left-back this month
It is a position that has been on Leeds‘ radar since before the season began on January 1, but teams now have less than two weeks to complete any remaining transfer activity.
Leeds have yet to complete a deal, but have been linked with a variety of players as they want to reinforce both full-back positions, central defence if Charlie Cresswell departs, and attack.
Leeds are interested in left-backs Ben Davies, Josh Doig, Borna Barisic, and Ryan Giles, and a deal for the latter appears to be possible.
Although other teams in the division are apparently keeping an eye on the issue, Leeds is expected to compete with Cardiff City, a competitor in the Championship, for the signing of the 23-year-old.
Giles only paid £5 million to join Premier League newcomers Luton Town in the summer, but he hasn’t had much of an impact—he has only started five league games thus far.
Leeds has prioritized the Premier League loan market thus far this transfer window, but it looks like a long-term incentive is required to finalize a move for Giles.
It will be fascinating to see if Luton changes their position at all later in the window, though, since Leeds seem prepared to wait in order to acquire their top targets.
