Lianne Sanderson has harshly attacked Tottenham defender Emerson Royal, urging the club to trade him.
Spurs just said goodbye to two of its longest-serving players, Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier. Former English footballer Lianne Sanderson believes the club should consider unloading another player.
In a harsh assessment of the player, she stated that the Brazilian left-back should not be on the Spurs squad.
Speaking on The Spurs Chat Podcast, she stated:
“Eric Dier, I know he’s been a good servant to the club, but you need to get rid of those players. I still believe that players like Emerson Royal should not be on the Spurs squad. Yes, he doesn’t start many games, but those types of players can’t meet the Spurs’ criteria.”
On the final day of the summer transfer window in 2021, the North London club signed Emerson Royal from La Liga giants Barcelona for €25 million. He signed a five-year contract with the club that runs until June 2026.
Despite not being the most technically talented player, the Brazilian international has established himself as an important team member under Ange Postecoglou, demonstrating versatility by playing several positions in the backline when necessary.
His playing time has been reduced since Pedro Porro replaced him as the first-team right-back, but he is still a good backup.
