Tottenham Hotspur appear to have beaten Bayern Munich to the signing of Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin
Spurs reached an agreement with the Italian club on Tuesday morning, after being in talks with Genoa for the previous week.
However, Bayern Munich launched a bid to buy Dragusin later that evening, with reports claiming they were’very confident’ in hijacking Tottenham’s move.
Spurs fans may have been forgiven for expecting the worst when Bayern vowed to block their bid for Ange Postecoglou’s top defensive target.
Dragusin, however, chose Tottenham over the Bundesliga champions, capping off an intriguing transfer story.
While many may be startled by the 21-year-old’s decision, his mother may have revealed the reason for his decision back in November.
Dragusin’s mum has already revealed the reason he chose Tottenham.
Svetlana Dragusin told Romanian publication AS in November that her son’s early desire was to play in the Premier League.
“I wish for him to reach where he set out to (go to),” she went on to say. “And he really wants to get to England.”
“This is his childhood dream.”
Few would have anticipated Dragusin to pass down a big club like Bayern in favor of a move to Tottenham.
The Romanian defender would have been nearly assured titles in Munich, which is one of the reasons Harry Kane abandoned Spurs to join them this summer.
However, it has already been reported that Dragusin was interested in moving to the Premier League.
It appears that he has honored his initial deal with Spurs, and Postecoglou is finally close to acquiring a centre-back.
Spurs would love to have Dragusin at Old Trafford this Sunday.
With Ben Davies and Cristian Romero out, Tottenham felt compelled to sign a replacement centre-back as soon as possible this month.
