Rangers up Cyriel Desser’s price due to an impending last-minute transfer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Rangers have raised their asking price for Cyriel Dessers in response to Cagliari’s interest.

The Light Blues now want about £3.35 million for the striker after he scored six goals and provided two assists in his past five outings across all competitions, according to the newspaper’s print edition (1 February, page 30).

Although Cagliari has been attempting to sign the 30-year-old, the new price makes any transfer risky because it is currently out of their price range.

Rangers‘ predicament with Cyriel Dessers. Dessers has been on the cutting block at Ibrox during this winter transfer window, but his recent form has put him in a difficult situation. Having paid approximately £4.5 million to sign the center-forward from Cremonese in 2023 [Rangers Review], it is reasonable for the Gers to be tempted to raise the asking price given his current form, but by holding out for a higher price, they run the risk of putting Cagliari out of any move for the Nigeria international. There are no assurances that Philippe Clement‘s team will be able to demand a sizable sum for Dessers in the summer, particularly if he continues to play second fiddle to Hamza Igamane.

They must therefore choose whether to sell the aging striker at the conclusion of the season for a lower price or to cash in on him now.

After starting him in Rangers‘ previous two games, Clement might not be opposed to retaining him at Ibrox until the conclusion of the season.

In other Rangers news, a new Hannover wrinkle has surfaced regarding the terms of Rabbi Matondo‘s transfer.
