Don Robertson let play continue despite three Rangers players stopping for a drink against Celtic on Thursday.
Pat Bonner, speaking on BBC Sportsound (2 January, 4:40pm), witnessed three Gers players leaving the pitch as referee Robertson signalled play on, with the hosts on their way to a 3-0 triumph at Ibrox.
The Light Blues were already two goals up before Robertson enabled Celtic to take the ball with an 11-to-eight advantage, but it didn’t matter since Danilo quickly made it 3-0.
“That was crazy,” Bonner stated.
“There were three Rangers players out there getting drinks while Don Robertson let the game continue.”
Don Robertson’s insane moment hits Rangers.
It’s rare for the Ibrox crowd to see their team so pumped up for a match this season, let alone one against their arch-rivals, who started the game 14 points ahead of them in the Premiership table.
However, the Bears were so dominant in their first game of the new year that even if those three players had been benched for the remainder of the game, you’d have picked the hosts to win.
Ianis Hagi‘s early strike set the tone for a first half that was soon one-way traffic to the Hoops’ goal, and Celtic couldn’t stop the tide of Gers attacks in a second period that left Ibrox rocking.
Taking three Light Blues out of the equation, although for a little while, didn’t even help Celtic, with Danilo scoring just 60 seconds after coming off the bench.
The question of who would officiate a large Old Firm game was a big talking topic before the game, but the Gers will only see the positives, despite a strange moment of playing the advantage from Robertson.
