Leeds United will resume their Championship campaign next week with a Friday night match at Rotherham United, which has enraged manager Daniel Farke.
Leeds United‘s visit to Rotherham United next Friday has been scheduled without regard for fair play. Daniel Farke is displeased that their match has been pushed ahead by a day when each club is missing so many internationals before that date.
Rotherham will be missing two players from each squad who have started Championship matches this season, while Leeds will be missing 11. With matches at New York Stadium taking place on Tuesday evening, 72 hours before kick-off, certain Leeds starters will not train with their teammates.
“I’m really unhappy with playing already on next Friday evening,” Farke told reporters. “This is my main concern because, with all due respect to Rotherham, they don’t have many lads away.”
“In terms of fairness, it would have been much better if a different game had been played on Friday evening, involving two sides with the same number of players away.” It’s not in the spirit of the game or fair play.
“It’s not the fault of Rotherham.” There is nothing we can do about it. It’s more like we have to adjust to the fact that this game has been chosen for the Friday evening game.
“I’m already concerned because I know a few players will have to play without having [had] even one training session with us in the next two weeks.” Many players will most likely return only on Wednesday [or] Thursday.
“If they are involved in the games on Tuesday, they will not be able to train if they want to start on Friday evening.” Some players will have to start even though they did not participate in a single training session during the next two weeks, but that is the reality.
“I can complain about this, I can be angry with this, [but that] doesn’t help us, so for that, I have decided to stay not too anxious [about international injuries] and to adapt to the reality.”
