Referee judgement explained following Arsenal protests about Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool triumph.

Darwin Nunez scored a 99th-minute winner against Nottingham Forest, extending Liverpool’s Premier League lead.
Nottingham Forest were wrongfully forced to give up possession just minutes before Darwin Nunez scored a 99th-minute winner to put Liverpool four points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Uruguayan forward netted his 14th goal of the season in the last seconds at the City Ground, giving Jurgen Klopp’s side a stunning, last-gasp victory over relegation-threatened Forest.

Nunez, who had missed Liverpool‘s previous three games due to a muscle injury sustained in a win over Brentford two weeks ago, came off the bench for the final 30 minutes in the Midlands to extend Liverpool’s points lead over both Manchester City and Arsenal ahead of games against Manchester United and Sheffield United in the coming days.

However, as the No.9 went highest to flick on Alexis MacAllister’s pinpoint cross, fans of Liverpool’s Premier League title rivals, City and Arsenal, were quick to point out a controversy surrounding the winning goal at the City Ground.

That’s because, just seconds before Forest was pushing for a winning goal to help them escape the relegation zone, referee Paul Tierney incorrectly awarded Liverpool a drop-ball when Calum Hudson-Odoi was in possession.

The incident occurred in the 97th minute at the City Ground, when Morgan Gibbs White’s corner led Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher and Ibrahima Konate to collide at the near post, leaving the Frenchman on the ground.
