Danilo of Nottingham Forest and João Gomes of Wolverhampton Wanderers were both kicked off the Brazil U-20 national team roster.
According to the CBF, both players sustained injuries during their weekend Premier League matches and will be unable to travel for the international break.
On Saturday, Danilo suffered a left thigh injury while playing for Nottingham Forest against Chelsea, and João Gomes left Wolves’ game against Crystal Palace due to “strong pain” in his right knee.
Brazil called up Gabriel Moscardo of Corinthians and Alexsander of Fluminense to fill their respective positions. The first of two friendlies between the national team and Morocco will be played on Thursday.
Since this is the so-called “pre-Olympic national team,” where athletes are vying for spots on the team that will compete in Paris in 2014, Danilo and João Gomes will undoubtedly be eager to return as soon as possible to prove that they deserve to be on that list.
There is currently no information on whether Nottingham Forest and Wolves will have to place those players on the sidelines following the international break.
