Before agreeing to transfer Ansu Fati on loan to Brighton, Barcelona reportedly offered to sell him permanently for £30 million.
Fati‘s loan to Brighton has been approved by Fabrizio Romano, and the teenager is now travelling to England.
Despite prior assertions, there were murmurs that Spurs were still in the running this morning, but that theory has not gained any support throughout the day (SkySports).
Brennan Johnson is currently the exclusive focus of Spurs.
Sky Sports note that Johan Bakayoko of PSV Eindhoven and Brennan Johnson of Nottingham Forest were the other two wide forwards on Tottenham‘s radar in addition to Fati. Bakayoko is reportedly headed to Brentford, while Fati is joining Brighton.
According to the report, Johnson is still the Lilywhites‘ top goal, but they would need to spend more than £40 million to get him out of the City Ground. Whether Daniel Levy and company will complete the deal on time is still up in the air.
I believe that Tottenham started talking to Barca about Fati in order to put pressure on Forest to lower their asking price for Johnson. I fully anticipate Spurs to complete a deal for the Wales international before the transfer window closes.
