Report: James Maddison observed training with an apparent Spurs transfer target

James Maddison has been photographed exercising with Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, whom Spurs are thought to be ‘keeping eyes on’.

Tottenham wants a new midfielder this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be interested in a number of attacking midfielders who can also play out wide, as the club prepares for Giovanni Lo Celso’s rumoured departure.

Gibbs-White, who joined Wolves in 2022, has impressed and is now receiving interest from Postecoglou’s Tottenham, with the club apparently keeping an eye on the 24-year-old.

The Telegraph did report in March that, despite the Midlands club’s troubling PSR situation, they are ‘under no obligation to accept lowball bids’, a method that Daniel Levy is well-known for using.

‘In excess of £50 million’ is apparently the sum Nottingham Forest intends to continue demanding for their star offensive midfielder.

Gibbs-White and Maddison exercised together last week.

Following the disappointment of being removed from Gareth Southgate‘s EURO 2024 squad at the last minute, James Maddison has already been seen at a summer pre-season training camp, aiming to achieve the heights he attained before his ankle injury against Chelsea.

From a Tottenham perspective, it’s heartening to see Maddison going above and beyond to prepare for preseason, presumably motivated by his bad season finale and subsequent England squad snub.

However, with PSR’s deadline of June 30th passed and Tottenham‘s interest in Eberechi Eze still being reported, I do not believe a move for Gibbs-White is less likely.

It’s possible that, despite the two players’ discussions about moving to North London, neither club’s plans align with such a concept.
