Report: Johan Lange went out to the national manager to attempt and push through the Spurs agreement

According to a report in Danish station TV2 (as supplied by Sport Witness), Tottenham approached Norway manager Stale Solbakken in an attempt to persuade Antonio Nusa to join the club in January.

With a week left in the transfer season, it appeared that Nusa was on his way to Tottenham, with different publications reporting last week that the Lilywhites had reached an agreement with Club Brugge.

Ange

This includes The Athletic, who reported a week ago that Ange Postecoglou‘s side will pay €30 million (£25.7 million) to the Belgian club and loan the 18-year-old back to them until the end of the season.

Brentford then appeared to hijack the agreement, with different sources claiming that Nusa preferred to join the Bees because the club promised him regular game time (Football.London).

However, in the final days of the transfer window, the teenager failed a physical at the Gtech Community Stadium due to knee and back concerns, causing the move to collapse (Ben Jacobs).

Tottenham’s tactics uncovered in the Antonio Nusa deal.

Antonio Nusa

It remains to be known whether Tottenham will rekindle their interest in Nusa next summer, but TV2 has revealed the technique Spurs used in January to persuade the kid to join the club.

According to reports, Tottenham‘s technical director Johan Lange contacted the player’s international manager, Stale Solbakken, in the hopes that the latter could persuade him to join the North London club.

Lange has a very excellent relationship with Solbakken, as the two had ‘worked for many years’ together at FC Copenhagen, where the Tottenham man formerly served as director.

It would have been intriguing to see what would have happened if Brentford hadn’t stolen the Nusa transaction. One would expect Spurs to have seen the same issue at the medical, which may have been enough to cancel the deal.
