Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto has asked his agents to find him a new club in Italy, with talks with Lazio still ongoing.
According to Calciomercato, Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto wants to leave the Elland Road club in the January transfer window and prefers a move to Serie A.
After being relegated to the Championship at the end of his debut season, the Italy international was keen to leave the Whites during the summer transfer window.
A move to Everton, however, fell through as Leeds declined to approve his transfer request, and he has since returned to the team after being dismissed due to disciplinary actions.
Gnonto still wants to go and has instructed his agents to find him a new club before the winter transfer window closes.
AS Roma were the first to express interest in his talents, but due to budgetary constraints, a contract with Lazio has surfaced as a viable option.
Fabiani, the sporting director of the Serie A team, has talked with his agents, but the €25 million demanded by the West Yorkshire club has put them off.
Lazio are hopeful Leeds will lower their fees and intend to hold negotiations with Daniel Farke‘s side.
The 19-year-old plainly wants to leave the club because he wants to play for Italy at Euro 2024 and knows that staying in the Championship will hurt his chances.
Gnonto has a goal and an assist in nine games this season in all competitions, after finishing last season with two goals and four assists in 25 appearances.
Leeds may be compelled to let him leave in January if he insists on leaving because it makes no sense to keep such a player, but Lazio or any other bidder will need to match their criteria in order to get a deal done.
They signed him for £3.8 million (€4.4 million) from FC Zurich on a five-year deal in September 2022, but the Swiss club included a 15% sell-on fee in the deal, which Leeds will take into account during negotiations with interested parties.
