Maeson King, an academy graduate, signs his first professional deal with Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur Academy announced the signing of Maeson King to his first professional contract via their X (previously Twitter) handle. The 18-year-old is a versatile defender who has proven himself as a left-back and center-back.
He has been a fixture for Tottenham’s Under-18 team this season. Maeson joined Tottenham’s academy at the age of ten. The Basildon-born defender rose through the ranks and finished his scholarship with the North Londoners in July 2022.
King’s professional contract means he will now be eligible for senior squad training and matches. He’ll have to strive harder to get noticed by Ange Postecoglou and begin his professional career.
The difficult journey ahead.
While Maeson King established his value and earned a professional contract, he still has a long way to go before making the first squad. Unfortunately for King, Postecoglou is exposed for defensive options.
In addition to his key back four alternatives of Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Destiny Udogie, he has Radu Dragusin, a tough and flexible option. Dragusin arrived in North London following a strong performance in Genoa.
Emerson Royal and Ben Davies were also present at Postecoglou‘s dispersal. Maeson King‘s performance throughout the training session may help him make it onto the club roster, if not the starting XI.
