Spurs supporters shouldn’t expect to see the Italian player back in action just yet because Destiny Udogie had surgery late in the previous season.
Tottenham players have returned to training as pre-season begins, and they will play a friendly against Scottish side Hearts this week. Unfortunately, Udogie will not participate in that game.
That is according to a report from Football.London, which details all of the players expected to participate in the behind-closed-doors friendly and includes an update on Udogie’s present condition.
According to the article, Udogie is “not expected to be fit” to play in Wednesday’s friendly against Hearts.
Instead, the fullback will “continue his rehabilitation” and will most certainly miss this game. Udogie’s readiness for Tottenham’s next game, a friendly against QPR on Saturday, remains to be seen.
Udogie underwent surgery on his left quadriceps after suffering an injury at the end of April, and was unable to play in Spurs’ last games of the season. He also missed Euro 2024 with Italy.
Speaking to Tottenham News shortly after Udogie’s surgery, injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar expressed concern over Udogie’s recovery path, noting that the young defender may have to train alone for some time.
Udogie had a fantastic maiden season in the Premier League, scoring two goals and providing three assists in 30 appearances for the Lilywhites.
Udogie doesn’t need to rush back, especially if it’s simply for a casual get-together behind closed doors.
He’ll return when he’s ready, and once the official season starts in August, I have no doubt that he will be playing at the highest level once more.
With that experience under his belt, perhaps he can perform even better coming season.
