Tottenham Hotspur may be poised to welcome a leader to the side, as the Ange Postecoglou revolution continues.
Tottenham Hotspur are in talks about bringing a French superstar to North London this summer.
The Lilywhites are having a successful first season under new manager Ange Postecoglou, with the Australian keeping the team in contention for the top four with an exciting style of game. Tottenham have depended on younger stars such as Brennan Johnson, Destiny Udogie, and Pape Sarr after Harry Kane‘s departure.
But, with a clear need for some experience to boost that enthusiasm, Spurs may be about to bring in a proven winner at the highest level to improve the team.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey of The Spurs News, Postecoglou could be on the verge of making a big acquisition in the form of Juventus and France player Adrien Rabiot.
“From what we’ve heard, they want to bring in another midfielder. We expect Hojbjerg to leave in the summer if they can find a replacement.
“Ange likes Hojbjerg, from what I’ve heard, but in terms of income and position in the squad, they’re ready to move on, as is he. I believe that if they have the opportunity to sign a genuine world-class central midfielder, they will take it.
“There are a few options available, Rabiot for free. They are talking and gazing around. He’s one of the greatest free agents on the market and has had an outstanding season with Juventus.”
Rabiot moved to Turin on a free transfer in 2019 and has been linked with moves to England ever since, with Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique denying last year that he was ever close to joining Manchester United at the height of the rumours – though she did say that their relationship with the Red Devils was good, implying a future move.
“United wanted to meet me to illustrate their interest in Adrien, but we never talked about money in detail because he quickly decided to stay in Turin,” she went on to say. “There were never any real negotiations, and we are on excellent terms with Manchester United.”
Rabiot has been in fantastic form for Juventus this season, appearing 21 times in the Old Lady’s title campaign. Despite his obvious potential, the 28-year-old France international has sparked controversy and has been labelled as tough to handle by some, casting any move to work with Postecoglou into doubt.
Earlier this season, the Australian told FourFourTwo, “It’s all about the fit.” Do they fit the football style we want to play? Are they the proper type of personality? “That’s a big one for me,” he said, detailing his recruitment procedure.
Rabiot is valued at €40 million, according to Transfermarkt.
