Newcastle United have a higher transfer budget than previously anticipated, while a costly Crysencio Summerville deal is being pursued by Leeds United.
According to Football Transfers, Newcastle United may revive their interest in Leeds United player Crysencio Summerville in the January transfer window.
On 3 January, the publication stated on their website that, despite “concerns over their hamstrung budget” due to FFP concerns, the Magpies actually have “a lot more than they have made out so far” to spend.
The Whites would “certainly demand a significant sum” for the 22-year-old, who has 12 goals and six assists in the Championship this season, but Newcastle may have the budget to accommodate it.
The Leeds United attacker also has the same agency as St. James’ Park manager Eddie Howe, Wasserman in the US, who helped broker transfers for Lewis Hall from Chelsea and Harvey Barnes from Leicester last summer.
Threat
With the third season of Howe‘s tenure at Newcastle proving significantly more difficult than the second, Summerville may be the type of player they are willing to spend big for to reignite their season.
Whether they would be willing to pay the kind of charge that would force the powers that be at Elland Road to take it seriously, larger budget or not, is another question.
To make promotion back to the Premier League a possibility, Leeds United would have to make a significant sacrifice of a player who has contributed as much as anyone this season.
The financial reward of returning to the top flight undoubtedly surpasses any agreement for any one player, but a substantial offer could sway Summerville‘s decision.
He showed few symptoms of wishing to leave during a summer when many of his former teammates were, thus it appears more likely that he will stay for the rest of the season.
However, when teams get increasingly desperate in the latter days of the January transfer window, it is difficult to rule out anything, and with Brighton also said to be interested in the Elland Road star [Alan Nixon on Patreon, 24 December], Daniel Farke may have some uneasy weeks ahead.
Newcastle’s financial might is certainly going to be a concern for most teams if they can in fact spend more than they’ve been letting on, but with Summerville emerging as a central star this season, it will take something exceptional to entice Summerville away midway.
