Romano discloses Tottenham’s proximity to acquiring the Bundesliga champion.

Depth is needed at center-back, but Tapsoba is out of reach

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba. The Italian writer believes that any move for the 25-year-old will be a difficult one for the Lilywhites.

The North Londoners failed not complete their Champions League qualification ambitions this season, and they are planning a huge summer revamp to achieve a cultural change at N17.

Despite signing two central defenders in the last two transfer windows, Spurs is anticipated to search for another player in the position this summer, and Edmond Tapsoba has been one of the names connected with a move to White.

Tapsoba move considered’super costly’

The Burkina Faso international has been one of the most dependable central defenders in the Bundesliga for several years, which has sparked attention from a number of clubs around Europe. While the Lilywhites are eager to sign him, Fabrizio Romano says that the total cost of bringing the 25-year-old to N17 will exceed Daniel Levy’s expectations, especially given the club’s recent signing of Radu Dragusin for a modest amount.

Fabrizio commented on Tottenham’s likely pursuit of Edmond Tapsoba (via GiveMeSport):

I believe they are extremely satisfied with Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven at centre-back right now—so they could bring in a new centre-back, but it would have to be a terrific opportunity. They also spent a significant amount of money on Radu Dragusin during the January transfer window.

Edmond Tapsoba is incredibly pricey. I believe Tottenham will struggle to re-sign last summer’s target due to the high cost.
