Tottenham have already signed Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin during the current transfer window, and they are now actively seeking a third high-profile signing, with English midfielder Conor Gallagher being their top target.
Gallagher, who is in the final 18 months of his deal with Chelsea, is worth about £50 million to the club. Despite the hefty asking price, Pochettino is determined to keep Gallagher, and is actively negotiating on a new deal for the player, who has been an important part of the club this season.
The Lilywhites‘ interest in Gallagher stretches back to the summer, and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has spoken about the ongoing transfer controversy on his Here We Go Podcast.
Romano claimed that Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has a high regard for Gallagher, but negotiations between the clubs or with the player’s agency have yet to commence.
Romano said:
“I believe there will always be linkages between Conor Gallagher and Tottenham since the club and, in particular, Ange Postecoglou value him highly. I’m still hearing it was in July/August that they began making contacts to better understand the issue, and he’s always been highly valued by the manager, so the curiosity is there.”
The transfer guru also gave some disappointing news, claiming that Spurs are satisfied with the incomings thus far and that any new signings will now be contingent on the outgoings.
He added:
“But, as far as I know, there are currently no conversations between clubs or agents to finalise the contract. Tottenham are quite pleased with the acquisitions they have made, and any new midfielder must come with an opportunity or following outgoings.
Flash says:
Spurs are now low on midfield options, with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr absent due to the AFCON.
They need to add another centre midfielder, but any new signings appear to be dependent on Hojbjerg’s future.
