Rotherham United fired Matt Taylor last Saturday after a 5-0 defeat at Vicarage Road against Watford.
Former Leeds United manager Steve Evans is not being considered for the managerial position at Rotherham United. According to the Rotherham Advertiser, Evans has dropped out of contention for the post, with the Millers chasing other possibilities ahead of next Friday’s Championship showdown with the Whites.
Rotherham United, who are presently 22nd in the Championship league and four points from safety, parted ways with manager Matt Taylor following the club’s 5-0 defeat to Watford last weekend. As a result, until a replacement is found, it appears that Rotherham will be led by interim manager Wayne Carlisle next week when they face high-flying Leeds.
The search for a new manager has begun, with names like as Gary Rowett and Leam Richardson being mentioned, but whoever the Millers pick, it is unlikely to be Evans. Earlier this week, it was reported that the 61-year-old, who is now in charge of Stevenage in League One, was being considered for the post in South Yorkshire.
Evans spent three years at Rotherham before joining Leeds in 2015, and he is still well-regarded at the club after winning two promotions. However, the strugglers are now looking at other candidates with more Championship management experience, something Evans hasn’t done since leaving the Whites in May 2016.
“I am looking for established Championship managers who have ‘done it,'” Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart told the Advertiser. “The standard is that high.
“The shortlist will be reduced to three or four, but we have a half-dozen in the bag and more are on their way.” I’d be surprised if someone arrived before Leeds. We’ll take advantage of the extra time to find someone who meets the bill.”
Evans was at Leeds for just under a season after taking over from Uwe Rosler, and he led the Whites to 13th place in the Championship.
