Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon is poised to leave the club this summer, and Manchester United has been touted as a potential destination as he reaches the final year of his contract.
Sergio Reguilon is slated to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and Manchester United appears to be interested in re-signing the defender.
The 27-year-old made 12 appearances for the Red Devils during his brief stay, but sources in Spain suggest that the club might still be a surprise destination for the former Sevilla star. Reguilon, who joined Tottenham for £28 million in 2020, had better success on loan at Brentford last season, where he made 16 appearances and provided four assists.
West Ham and Juventus are among the other clubs reportedly interested in signing Juventus . Julen Lopetegui is preparing to start his first season in command of the Irons, having presided over Reguilon’s most successful season with Sevilla in 2019/20.
Despite a brief stint at Old Trafford, Reguilon seemed to have no ill will against Manchester United. When the Real Madrid youth product left in early 2024, he sent a great message.
“It has been great to play for Manchester United and I just want to say thank you to the club, the fans and my teammates,” according to him. “It was an honour to play for this massive club. Best wishes to the Red Devils.”
Reguilon was excited about the possibility to work with Ten Hag after joining the club for the 2023-24 season. In a club interview, Reguilon remarked of the Dutchman, “He wanted me to come, and I wanted to come here as well.” It was all extremely easy.
“Now I’m here, and we’ve been talking in training about what he expects from his left-back. I believe we share the same philosophy. He appreciates hard workers, and I enjoy working hard; I believe we’re on the same page.
While United has been connected with a move to Reguilon, their interests remain in other areas. Despite their initial budget of £50 million before player sales, the team intends to sign a centre-back, midfielder, and striker in the following weeks.
