After beating out Leeds United and Middlesbrough, the Blades are closing in on a crucial target.
Aston Villa and England Under-21 striker Cameron Archer is reportedly on his way to Sheffield United.
The 21-year-old frontman is thought to have piqued the interest of Leeds United and Middlesbrough after scoring 11 goals and contributing six assists in 23 appearances for the latter during a loan spell in the second part of last season.
However, Archer seems set to be given a chance to lead the Blades‘ frontline in the Premier League after becoming Paul Heckingbottom‘s eighth summer signing, following in the footsteps of Gustavo Hamer and Tom Davies.
Heckingbottom remarked last week of the possibilities of adding more fresh faces to his squad, “Generally, we don’t have to speak about it too much.” They would understand how we function, the atmosphere, and why the loans have been successful.
“It’s not like we’re magicians; it’s hard work, and the players must also believe in it.” We’ve found that when agencies call us, it’s because they want their player to come here, and when we contact clubs, they know we’ll be a fantastic football fit for them. In terms of bringing in players, the process has never ceased. We know what we require and must go to great lengths to obtain it.”
The Blades manager appears to have taken a step closer to signing one of his primary targets, with Yorkshire Live reporting that a deal has been struck for Villa striker Archer. The England Under-21 star has been granted permission to explore a move to Bramall Lane, with the first phase of his physical expected to take place on Wednesday – albeit the deal is ‘unlikely’ to be finalised within the next 24 hours.
