Leeds United have been interested in signing Josh Doig for some time, but the Hellas Verona left-back is leaving for Sassuolo today
The Whites need to sign players this month if they want to be in the best possible shape for the Championship promotion campaign.
The deadline cannot pass without the club addressing its lack of real depth at left and right defense.
Josh Doig is among Leeds’ left-back targets
It’s been a busy month for Scottish left-back Josh Doig, with speculation over a move away from Hellas Verona prevalent in the new year, including renewed ties to Elland Road.
The Edinburgh-born left-back was on Leeds’ shortlist, but it now appears that the defender will remain in Italy despite being on the move.
Sky Sports Italy (via Hellas1903) now claims that Doig‘s move to Sassuolo in Serie A has been “completed”.
The sum is estimated to be around €6 million (£5.14 million), with Hellas also retaining a 10% sell-on clause for any future transaction.
An official announcement about the Leeds targets’ move is likely this evening
would have done extremely well to sign Doig this season, because he is not only one of the greatest left-backs in the Championship, but he will only improve.
However, there’s a reason he’s stayed in the top flight of Italy with Sassuolo, another side with a lot of quality in their ranks.
He’s still someone that the club should continue keeping track of though, because he’s a top talent that could be in the Premier League in the future.
