Sky Sports pundits were taken aback by a penalty incident on Friday.

After watching video of the incident, Sky Sports pundits are perplexed as to why Leeds United were not awarded a penalty on Friday night.

Leeds took an early lead thanks to Crysencio Summerville‘s goal. After a brilliant piece of play with Georginio Rutter, the Dutch forward finished beautifully. Hakeem Odofin equalised just before halftime, and the teams went into the break level.

Lee Peltier came flying in with his studs off the ground in the second half and clattered Dan James in the box; the referee waved play on.

Following the game, the incident sparked outrage online, with many criticising the decision. Sue Smith of Sky Sports weighed in on the debate:

“Take a look at the second half.” Should they have been punished? Yes, they most likely should have.”

Michael Dawson also claimed that the penalty should have been awarded to Leeds United:

Leeds ROTHERHAM

“[Rotherham] were fortunate here for Peltier to not give a penalty away on Dan James.”

“That wasn’t the right outcome because the Championship doesn’t have VAR.” If they had, Peltier would have received a penalty and a red card, and Leeds would have suffered as a result.”

The outcome on Friday Leeds manager Daniel Farke was dissatisfied with the refereeing performance on the night:

Summerville goal

“..My vision was clear, Morrison was 30cm off the ground on James.” Attacking quickly. There is no VAR in the championship, and everything is the same. It’s an away game. You probably get this all day at home. Nobody is yelling for it away from home. At this point, we must accept it.”

Next week, the Whites host Swansea City in an attempt to close the gap on league leaders Leicester City.
